We provide independent assessments throughout Northern Ontario, that include: Capacity Assessments, Attendant Care Assessments, Case Management services, and medical file reviews.

Capacity Assessments

Lindsay is a Designated Capacity Assessor in the Province of Ontario, as outlined in the Substitute Decisions Act (SDA), 1992. Capacity Assessments are legal assessments which are designed to determine if someone is able to understand and appreciate the consequences of their decisions. The two types of legal capacity assessments under the SDA are: managing property (Finances), and making personal care decisions (health care, nutrition, shelter, clothing, hygiene, and safety).

A Capacity assessor is someone who is qualified and designated to determine whether an individual is mentally capable of making decisions related to property, and/or personal care, and if guardianship is necessary as outlined in the Substitute Decisions Act.

A financial Assistance program is available to cover the cost of a capacity assessment in situations where an individual cannot afford the fees. For further information on this program and to obtain an application be contact the Capacity Assessment office:
